Original artwork in pen, ink and egg tempera on 600gsm watercolour paper. Size 56cm x 48cm.
With its position overlooking the River Thames towards St Paul’s Cathedral, it is easy to believe the plaque on the wall that states that Sir Christopher Wren once lived here. However, the house was built around 1710, when St Paul’s was practically complete and Sir Christopher almost 80 years old. It is possible though, that he could have lodged in the house that stood prior to this one for a while.
For a rich insight into the history of this house, I can recommend the book ‘The House by the Thames’ by Gillian Tindall.
